Stereogram

A stereogram is an optical illusion of depth created from flat, two-dimensional image or images. Stereogram was discovered by Charles Wheatstone in 1838. He found an explanation of binocular vision which led him to construct a stereoscope based on a combination of prisms and mirrors to allow a person to see 3D images from two 2D pictures.

Stereograms were re-popularized by the creation of autostereogram on computers, where a 3D image is hidden in a single 2D image, until the viewer focuses the eyes correctly. Check these out. Stare at the stereogram as close as possible and move back slowly.

I would love to hear if you "see" anything? batting eyelashesbig grin

  1. I'm unsure with the 1st pic, I think they're bird. The 2ns one is a dragonfly and the last is 'Love':)

Man, that's too much exercise for my eyes...

    Thanks for the visit:)

  2. Frankly speaking, I have no idea what number 1 is either. But I thought number 2 had some words in it and a logo or something (based on the words) and yeah, 3rd was Love. Word and hearts. :D

  5. 1: SR-71 blackbird
2: a dragonfly w/ the words newLISP at the bottom
3: The word Love floating above 3 hearts floating above the background.

It took me a while to finally get these things too. I have a CRT and imagine that I'm looking at the back of it, and focus my eyes as if I am, and that usually works for me.

  6. The first picture is a daylily lying on its side with the step on the left.
The second picture is a single dragonfly (a dragonfly has 4 wings) flying west. There is a word underneath which reads "newLISP".
You know what the third picture is.

  7. First one seems like some sort of a plane.
The second one had a dragonfly and a writing: newLISP
The third one has a heart(seems like three on top of each other) and on top of that is a bit diagonally written LOVE.
    (I love stereograms :D)

  8. Go close to the screen and slowly back away. Then you may be able to see the images if you focus hard. =) Enjoy!

  11. #1) I thought it was a couple side by side birds facing to the right when I first looked. It is still a bit abstract, but I do see what I think is the SR71 that someone else mentioned.

#2) I could see the upper image and words but couldn't make it out until I read what others said. The 2nd time around it's very clearly the dragonfly and newLISP.

#3) Was obvious to me the first time as three hearts with Love on top.

    Thanks for posting.
