1. Grandmother's fried chicken. Her recipe is unique and I have never tasted it again after she has passed away.
2. Crayons.
3. Dumplings. (See photo on right)
4. Fire crackers during festive seasons. Though it may be the sound of the loud fire crackers but the smell of gunpowder does the trick too. Remind me of childhood, that is.
5. Fried salted fish. Another one of grandma's special dish.

Yes! Fire crackers! How can I forget that? Your fried chicken memory is very much like one I have of my grandmother's biscuits. Why can't I think of these things when I'm making my own list? Oh..you said that it was funny that I said "a couple years.." Yeah, that was on purpose..can't disclose my age you know. ;-) Great list!
ReplyDeleteI totally get the fried chicken and other foods that good ol' grandma (or 'gamma') used to make. I miss her dearly! There's a cute story about my grandma and fried chicken. Apparently there was a child at her church way back when, that couldn't quite pronounce all his words right just yet and he would call fried chicken - died dicken. So my gamma used to say that all the time! Thanks for the memories and thanks for participating in the first ever 'Give Me Five' Monday meme. If you'd like to participate again and would like to be included in the email reminder, just let me know at beccagirl@charter.net and I'll send out reminder emails. Thanks! Great GM5!!
ReplyDeleteYour 5 got me thinking about childhood holidays dinners and the smells that were unique to those times. My grandmother's flaky biscuits. I remember that delicious smell very clearly!
ReplyDeleteme, the smell of boiled bamboo shoots, chicken adobo, pine tree sap, sweet potato, (LOL) and the local vegies my mom would cook^^
ReplyDeleteooh, the dumplings are making me water. is that nonya? or meat? i love my mother's dumpling and my grandmother's kueh.
ReplyDeleteand firecrackers. yes. but now, because of that stupid law, we only have miserable sparklers...

anyway, as for the stripe and spot answer, i was playing a joke on my class. they were studying english and they were falling asleep. i have to do all kinds of tricks to get them awake and make sure they were listening. sometimes, i feel i'm a clown more than anything else.
