My place has no 4 seasons. However, there are some trips planned in early March because of Bible convention in another state. Another state in my country means 2 hours drive away only.

Twosome: B--etter to look in the mirror before you leave? Have you ever discovered (say around mid-day) that your clothes really didn't match up?

Hmm...I wear Punjabi suits and they come in a suit of top and matching pants bottom. I mean one seldom mix and match the top and pants, at least I don't. For me the whole suit will be worn as it is, get washed as a suit and wore again the next time as a whole suit. So I seldom have the problem of mismatched clothes.

Threesome: C--atch any good movies lately? What should we go see now that the Oscar's are done and over for another year?

Planning to watch P.S. I Love You but not sure if it is good. Storyline sounds interesting and I haven't read the book yet either.

I am not so creative with food. So this is the "real" thing. It is called cendol. The ingredients for cendol are shaved ice, coconut milk, starch noodles with green food coloring (usually sourced from the pandan leaf), and palm sugar. Red beans, glutinous rice, grass jelly, and creamed corn are optional additions.

Tracker Mortgages

Walking Kit

I am really desperate for some exercise now. I have been thinking about getting a treadmill but the better ones are rather expensive. I got this walking kit from Mph Bookstore for an incentive though. Yeah, I did say that I am desperate. I actually need something extra besides my legs to get me walking now. It consists of a manual with diet information and of course weight loss tips, a pedometer to measure the number of steps I have walked and hand grips for the stronger swing so to speak. Not sure if this will really help me lose weight but I need to do something. Now I just need to set a schedule to get down to it.

I take 2-3 teasppons of brown sugar and creamer for my coffee. I seldom take tea.

Threesome: Bandage-- your owies with a spray or with drops? Have you seen these liquid, no sting, bandage drops yet? Man, I'm thinking these may be ideal to have when you're out and about with kidlets!

Hmm...perhaps 9:1. Most of the time punctual and late only if there were some unforeseen circumstances.

Threesome: Two-- weeks and the next day is only there twenty-five percent of the time! Does Leap Year have any special meaning to you? ...or is it just one more day of the week?

It just makes me think of those folks who were born on the 29 th February. Although I don't celebrate birthdays but the day of birth for these people comes only once every 4 years. A little weird feeling.

Perfect Match

I am really hooked on Jodi Picoult's books now. She is my new favourite author. The last can't put it down book that I read was Perfect Match. Again this is her second book after Plain Truth that I just had to read in one sitting. With a title like that one would have thought that this is another romance story but not so. Actually Picoult deals with very soul searching topics and contemporary issues.

Perfect Match is actually about child abuse, what does being a good parent in trial some situations means and what happens when you take a morally right but legally wrong course of action? Since the topic itself is gripping with great believable characterizations, I could not help but feel for the abuse victim, the kid. It is heart wrenching but also I can't keep away from reading it.

Highly recommended.

I was going to post about the sumptuous lunch I had a few days ago. I had forgotten about this restaurant for a while and glad to patronize it again because the food is just delicious. The restaurant is named Esquire Kitchen. I ordered the pork chop noodles in soup and fried dumplings (photo). They served the dumplings with their special sauces and ginger strips in vinegar. Yummy!

I had to read this question a few times to understand it. I guess after I had known about the Bible at the age of 17, my life has taken a more controlled form. I didn't feel that I was drifting with the crowd so to speak but neither was I doing things just to please myself. 2 Corinthians 5:14, 15 - For the love the Christ has compels us, because this is what we have judged, that one man died for all; so, then, all had died; and he died for all that those who live might live no longer for themselves, but for him who died for them and was raised up.

My kitchen sink by sitting on it. It is a flimsy one and if I could I would like to get a better one.

I feel stressed out. My body is feeling it. My eczema is breaking out. There has been a teeny weeny financial challenge last weekend and I was a little concerned. I don't remember ever owning or having a sleigh bed before because I typically use mattresses only after my marriage. Sleigh bed is practical too for cleaning purposes. My childhood pets are 4 tortoises. They can live very long, I suppose but they don't stay small. In the end, I had to let them go in a nearby stream. They got too big and heavy to care for and I live in apartment after marriage. So no place or garden to let the tortoise get some sunlight. I use to put them in a tub but my back was hurt during one session of cleaning these tortoises.

Where did it come from?

I bought them at a local night market. This is like flea markets but it is at night. They costs 50cents each in my currency. They were put in a small plastic aquarium.

What was the coolest thing about your pet?

They are quiet. Tortoise do not make any noise. They are really easy to care for before they got too big.

Well, I believe that when a person dies, he goes back to the dust. However, in the resurrection when righteous ones are brought back to life on earth, I would like to meet and speak to Noah who build the ark with his family, Abraham who is called God's friend, Jonah who was swallowed by a big fish and remained in its belly for 3 days, Moses with the famous splitting of the Red Sea and many others.

I can't remember.

Pushing a naughty little girl away from lap. She was bouncing on me and it felt uncomfortable. I pushed a little too hard and she fell down. I didn't apologize. I felt bad and sorry afterwards.

Are candle light dinners romantic?
When I was newly married, my husband and I too entertained the notion that sitting in a semi dark restaurant with candles around us is the symbol of romance that can enhance love and marriage. So why wouldn't a newly married couple celebrate their first few wedding anniversaries in a restaurant with such ambiance?
Let me recalled one such dinner. We ordered something called steak and lamb chop. Two glasses of drinks that came with umbrellas though we didn't order those (the umbrellas, I mean). One thing I am not use to are these "gourmet" food. I mean the steak and lamb chops come is mini-sized portion and "decorated" with carrot flowers that are inedible, I always feel unsatisfied and still hungry after the meal. Of course the umbrella that came with the drinks can't be eaten as well. And we end up with an exorbitant bill afterwards. I don't know about you but with my stomach still hungry and the wallet flattened, it just takes out whatever romantic feeling there is!

I read an interesting book

Last Saturday, I was at the bookshop for a long time browsing at new releases and special offers. There was some offer for Jodi Picoult's books. This is the first time I heard of her but she already wrote and published many books. I bought a few that were on offer. I like her books very much. They are soul searching and thought provoking.

As I was not feeling too good yesterday, I had the opportunity to read the whole day I was in bed. I picked up Jodi Picoult's - Plain Truth and I can't put it down. I read the whole book of 482 pages in two sittings. No doubt I had to finished the last few pages this morning but it was a really interesting book. I learned a lot about the Amish people, their beliefs and life style from the book. I highly recommend it.

Today is a weekend and I managed to watch another nice Hindi movie. This movie stars Madhuri Dixit which is her first film after six years. I enjoyed watching her dances and the expressive facial features and eye movements when she dances. She is in top form for the movie.

Synopsis:

Dia (Madhuri Dixit) grew up in the town of Shamli where she learned to dance from Makarand (Darshan Zariwala). During her learning she met an American, Steve, whom she falls in love with. Her parents find out and arrange her marriage, but instead Dia elopes with Steve. After nearly a decade, an unexpected phone call shakes Dia (Madhuri Dixit) out of her dance rehearsal in New York. Makarand (Darshan Zariwala), her teacher, is dying and she must return to Shamli town. During the phone call she reveals that she also had a child, who is now eight years old, with Steve. Dia arrives too late and her guru passes on to the town where she grew up, the town where she learnt to live,to dance. Also the town she left on an impulse, severing ties with her parents and her people.

Jab We Met

It has been sometime since I posted about my favourite Bollywood movies. My recently watched favourite movie is named Jab We Met (Since We Met). Of course with a title like that, it must be a love story, the type that has a happy ever after ending. A tiny tidbit here, the hero and heroine of this movie were dating in real life for 4 years and split soon or after this movie was released.

Synopsis: Aditya Kashyap (Shahid Kapoor), a demoralized industrialist, gets even more depressed after attending the marriage of the girl he loves the most. Feeling ashamed to face the world, he walks out of the marriage gathering and boards a train in the night. Over there, he meets Geet Dhillon (Kareena Kapoor), a beautiful talkative girl who is leaving Mumbai to go to her hometown - Bhatinda (Punjab).

In the beginning, Geet irritates Aditya to a large extent and every meeting becomes mental torture for him. She discloses big plans to him of eloping with her boyfriend Anshuman (Tarun Arora) as she fears resentment from her parents. Geet irritates Aditya to the point of getting him to leave the train. As she tries to get him back on the train, she ends up missing it and the two find themselves stranded on a desolate station with no luggage or money. Geet confronts Aditya and tells him that he is now responsible of reaching her safely to her house in Punjab. Both of them begin an idyllic journey through the exuberant North Indian heartland, and make their way through buses, taxis and camel-carts to reach her house.

On arrival, Geet's family (Pawan Malhotra, Dara Singh and Kiran Juneja) mistakens the two for lovers. Before this misconception can be cleared, Geet escapes to her boyfriend in Manali. Aditya leaves with her, confirming the suspicion that they are lovers. In Manali, Aditya feels empowered to return to Mumbai and resurrect his ailing business.

Destiny despises Geet's love story as Anshuman avoids and dumps her. On the other hand, Aditya begins to do well in life after he resurrects his failing business empire. He takes it upon himself to find her and tells her family that he will bring her home in ten days.

Aditya finally tracks her down in a Himalayan town and is traumatized to learn about Geet's misfortune. Consoling her to face the circumstances, he manages in patching up the relationship of Geet and Anshuman, and they decide to travel back to Bhatinda. Back in Bhatinda, Geet's family again mistaken the two for lovers. Trying to clear the misconception, situations make Geet realise that she is in love with Aditya not Anshuman, and therefore they get married.

1. When did you last use graphing paper?
I think it was back in secondary school in 1987. I don't really enjoy using graphing paper. I think it was only used in Mathematics and Science classes.

2. When did you last use a highlighter?
I use the highlighter on Tuesday 3 days ago. I am still studying now, for my bible classes and meetings. There are certain question and answer sessions which we are given some notes to prepare and consider beforehand, so I will use a highlighter to highlight subtitles but underline the main point with pen and ruler.

3. When did you last cover a book?
Perhaps last year. Although I seldom cover my books these days but I am sure that I do cover some at least once a year. Those which I know that I will use for the rest of the year. Some textbook for bible classes and discussions.

4. When did you last wear an apron or smock?
I have never wore an apron or smock for kitchen purposes. However, I do wear protective jacket or sweater to protect my clothes from the dust and me from the cold wind when I ride the motorbike. That I did so last week.

5. When did you last use glue?
I think last year too. I am not sure for what now. Perhaps to wrap presents or seal an envelope. I think it was to seal an envelope. I usually use the cellophane tape for presents.

Lavender

I have loved the smell of lavender since my good friend who lived in England made me a pouch of dried crushed lavender. The scent of lavender is still fragrant after a few years. All I need to do is just crush the pouch and the scent will fill the cupboard. When it was freshly made, it can even fill the whole room.

In England, she grew these lovely flowers in her own garden. I can only imagine, the soothing fragrance of lavender when the breeze passes by. It must be lovely and aromatic. Nevertheless, I was told that the scent is stronger when dried. We can't grow lavender here in Malaysia, at least I have not seen them grown here. I have always loved the colour lavender and purple. If there are things that looked good in purple, I would rather choose this colour over pink or blue. I had a purple dress once. I wore it until I outgrew it.

I join the "hate" brigade for this animal or rather more appropriately the Groundhog Day associated with it.

1. Not sure about groundhogs but rats bring disease.

2. According to wikipedia, on Groundhog Day, the belief about forecasting the continuation of winter and seeing shadow of groundhog sounds silly. I don't know any folklore associated with rats either.

3. Hmm...some other beliefs and traditions about Groundhog Day is associated with paganism. This is all gathered from wikipedia as I have not heard about this celebration before this tag.

4. There are already many public holidays here in Malaysia without any specific ones attributed to animals, so more holidays will really disrupt the productivity of the country. (This is purely MY personal speculation). In addition to that having a day devoted to an animal may caused other "animals" or animal lovers to come up with other "special" days to commemorate too. For example the Chinese zodiac has 12 animals to begin with...

5. There are NO four seasons here in Malaysia. No need for a rodent to tell us the length of winter.

10 Things You Can Do Instead of Watching TV

1. Read a book or magazine.

2. Go out and meet up with relatives or friends.

3. Take some photos which might come in handy for a blog post later on.

4. Window shopping. Actually I prefer to browse at bookshops.

5. Clean the house which can double up as exercise too.

6. Blog and surf the internet.

7. Start a new hobby. Still contemplating and nothing fancies me at the moment.

8. Play sudoku which is getting very addictive for me.

PS: I really don't have a television now and I seldom play any vcd or dvd on my laptop these days either. Of the 10 things listed, mostly I spend my time working on my blog, social networking on the internet, read books and play the radio on my mobile phone, and yes, play sudoku online as well. Occasionally I would go window shopping (at the bookshop) about twice or thrice a month, I do grocery shopping once a week though at the hypermarkets in the mall (very big mall).

Sometime ago I decided to spend a little more to get myself and hubby a nice stainless steel set of fork and spoon. We have enjoyed using it ever since because stainless steel is so easy to clean compared to other materials. I generally keep company with folks who dressed decently. Therefore, most of the people I know dress sensibly. To me worst-dressed means bizarre fashion that vie for attention. I also feel very uncomfortable around people who wears revealing clothes. They are paying more to wear less.

4) What is the best thing you have ever had for breakfast?

I still like my muesli with milk.

Manic Monday

Is there anything too serious to joke about? If so, what falls into that category for you?

Yes, there are things that are too serious to joke about and it would offend me if done so on purpose. Jokes and humour should have their proper place and time in our communication and interaction. The context too matters because even when the joke is about the topics that I list out here, if it is done in a "leg pulling" way with no malice or hurtful intentions, that is more palatable than an outright joke or "for fun" purpose. After saying so, topics that are serious to me are my beliefs (religion), family, and close friends. There was another question in another meme about if I would defend a friend when his/her reputation is at stake when others spoke about a misguided notion about my friend. I replied that I would stand up and speak out for my my friend.

Would you rather be a tortured genius or a happy simple-minded person? Why?

I seriously do not know what does tortured genius mean! Hahaha...so I guess I would rather be a happy simple-minded person. Interestingly I was speaking about finding a potential mate for my brother and he finally came up with the ideal wife that he is seeking. She must be a "wise fool". Someone who can act dumb in front of in laws but wise enough to be discerning about the reaction of relatives. Dumb in this case would both mean when to be quiet and when to smile and ignore relative's remarks.

A dear friend or family member has a terminal illness and is in agony. He/she wants you to help him/her die. What would you do?

This is a very tough question. Though if I am the suffering one and my case is clearly deemed to be hopeless, I would not want to be put on a "permanent" life support system that will only burdened my family members emotionally and financially. Similarly, I would discuss this matter with my husband prior to any medical treatment or in case of accidents, what is to be done. But back to the question, I would not "help" the person die but if the person's case is clearly hopeless beyond any doubt as reasonably agreed by physicians and doctors, then the decision perhaps is to discontinue any life support system or technology.

My reading progress

I have just finished A Cup of Comfort for Weddings and now going to another series named A Cup of Comfort for Dog Lovers. In A Cup of Comfort for Weddings, the book tells about stories from the brides, the bridegrooms, the father of the brides and mothers too. Many heart warming stories of true love and marriages that survived until the great great grandchildren.

Those days people married really young. About in their teens. With the World War 2 in progress many form long lasting relationships before and shortly after the war. When they give their word, most will fulfill their promises. I really enjoyed reading these inspiring books.

Aging Gracefully and Being Contented

Having no children of our own, there is always a need for discussions and careful planning about how we can cope financially and physically when we grow older. 1. What was your high school decade?
I went to high school in the 80's. It counts from Form 1 (1983) to Form 5 (1987).

2. Are you still friends with your high school friends?

Sadly no. I have lost touch with all of my high school friends. I have not kept in touch with any of them and neither are there any high school reunion that I go to. I am not sure if that is even a practice here in the first place.

3. What was your favorite thing about high school?

I would say joining the uniform society. I was active in the St. John's Ambulance and there were lots of activities to attend to. We have foot drill in the hot sun in our uniforms, some girls actually fainted instead of assisting others. We participated in mock accidents and how to attend to injured casualties. We learned nursing skills like bandaging, made slings and tourniquets to stop bleeding, made hospital beds solo or with a partner, took tests and went for competition. That was fun. I was even on duty at a real religious festival celebrated here in Malaysia where there are many folks cramped in a cave. So we St. John's Ambulance were called in to assist those who fainted or had injured themselves.

4. Your least favorite?
Dissecting frog and insect at biology lessons. Ewww...I was praying hard that I wouldn't get such assignments for the real exam. My prayer was answered. Phew!

5. Did you have a high school sweetheart? And how did that work out?!

Yes, I had. Even though I was in an all girls' school, I managed to get to know a guy through these gatherings of uniform society members. He was a scout. So we met at one such gatherings and both our schools also organized outdoor trips. We dated for a few months and I was not ready to go further. I broke it off.

6. Would you do the whole high school thing again, or is it better left in the past?!
I would go through it again if I had the choice minus the dissecting frog or insect part.

What is the funniest commercial you’ve ever seen?

It has been quite a while since I've watch TV. I don't remember any off hand. But there is one on radio about abusing domestic animals that is rather cute. The two "animals" were telling how they were not given food and beaten by their owners. Then they whimper and cried. It is not funny in the humorous sense but the animal voices made by the advertisers are. Of course, this is a serious message and in Tamil language but my husband told me the gist of it. Another one on radio is about a guy who was text messaging on his mobile while driving, he crashed his car and made some regrettable sound on the radio. That is funny but again serious message too.

Main Course
Make up a name for a company by using a spice and an animal (example: Cinnamon Monkey).

I like cinnamon too. But since it is already used as the example, I go for Paprika Fox.

Dessert
